New Dog mess bin for the area

Posted by solus and quarters resident association on January 14, 2012 at 3:20 AM Comments comments (0)

We as residents supported the concept of an extra Dog mess bin for people who are pet owners in the area.

After supporting Cllr Dave Harris in this, the neighbourhood action panel came up with the funds.

It is located on the corner of Berechurch Hall Road and Roman Way, and having only been there on site a few months, it is reported by Council officers as being well used.

Thats people power in action

Resident association meeting 25th August

Posted by solus and quarters resident association on September 13, 2011 at 3:45 PM Comments comments (1)

The residents of Solus / Quarters met recently, and discussed issues on the estate. We feel that the area is a great place to live, but we are trying to enhance our area, and get one or two things solved.

It was great to meet fellow residents and great to share our common aims about a great community

watch this site for future updates on your area

I am hoping that Jeff will stay on, he has done a lot for the area.

Some problems are coming to a solution, and we will continue to create the community.

I am currenty planning another litter pick

Working to get a meeting with Taylor Wimpey over snags on the estate

Also working with police to get extra patrols, and also to have our own community patrols, after police have trained us

Hope to call a residents meeting mid May 2011

Chairman stepping down

Posted by Jeff Smith Resident on February 17, 2011 at 4:46 AM Comments comments (5)

I have decided to remove myself from the position as Chairman with immediate effect .

I feel it is fair to say that the larger percentage of residents are happy not to get involved in creating the community I would have wished for. I have gone to great lengths, with the help of Cllr Dave Harris to bring residents together. After posting leaflets through every letter box last sunday  detailing the website address (again) , we received just 2 responces

It is clear to see that the idea of a residents Association on this development ,at this time, is a no no.  I do believe that it is very important to have a strong community, this will give you a strong and loud voice. As  the development grows and more residents move onto the new Quarters site, then the need for this voice will grow even stronger. (noise, litter, parking, criminal damage, etc. will of course increase as the numbers do. As they have on Solus.

I have decided to adopt the attitude of the mojority and step back. I am convident that it will become very apparent, in time that residents will be making various demands for where they live and for what they expect from other residents. maybe then a Residents Association will be better received.

,

Regards

Jeff Smith

Cllr Dave Harris and myself completed a leaflet drop this morning to every household on the development,  we are hopeful that this will make more residents aware that we are here and keen to see the numbers grow .

Newtown Magement Company meeting

Posted by Jeff Smith Resident on February 10, 2011 at 4:34 PM Comments comments (0)

Newtown Management have now taken responsibilty for a large part of the development. I had a meeting with Gary Cooper (manager) on wednesday where we discussed some issues that have been brought to my attention by residents. Gary is keen to be pro-active and get things done and welcomes residents feed back. There are a number of things that he has stated that he is going to tackle. (1) to discuss with George Wimpy the possibilty of Newtown cutting the grass verge along the footpath. (2) clean up the square with a jet wash.(3) put lights in all bin shed and digital locks on the doors (4)  Make good and repair all damaged areas that fall within their remit. (5) replace all defective lights.  Gary has also agreed to discover the landlords responsible for properties that are left to the elements and are a blot on the landscape.

We should soon see the benifit of Newtown looking after thier residents. If you have any points you wish to put to Garry Cooper, you could post it on this website and he will be happy to respond.

Can I ask you all to speak to your neighbours and ask them to sign up to this web site.

My concern is that When the development links up with the new Quaters Development there will be over three times the amount of people, this will be a good thing and  I am looking forward to seeing it compleated and to be able to take a stroll around one of the biggest developments in Colchester. However, it will be a great advantage, if by then, we had a strong community that pulled together insisting that we get the best services from the Council, Police, Street wardens etc and demand the best behaviour from those who have other ideas of spoiling it for us all.

Litter pick done !!!

Posted by Jeff Smith Resident on February 5, 2011 at 8:31 AM Comments comments (0)

A big thanks to Paul and Gary and of course to Cllr Dave Harris, who met as arranged this morning at 10am to litter pick the development. It would have been nice to see a few more turn out,  maybe next time. We removed the wrapping from the litter bins, Dave harris is going to speak to the council insisting  they are emptied weekly.  We managed to fill about 6 -7 large black bags. the worst area was as you enter the development and around by the park,  It was a shame to see the centre row of fencing kicked out at the back of the development. George Wimpey will have to make good all damaged areas before the Development is handed over to the LA.

I can understand why they are reluctant to make good, when they know it may be damaged again tomorrow. I have managed to get a stronger police presence and maybe this will help.

I am having a meeting with the Street Wardens next week requesting a show of force from them, far more often then present. They tell me that due to cut backs they have had their vehicle taken off them. This will prevent them getting around as quickly as they used to, However I will be asking for a visit to our Development at least once a week. I will update when I have news of the meeting

Resident Meeting Sept 2010

Posted by solus and quarters resident association on September 4, 2010 at 11:31 AM Comments comments (1)

The residents met to discuss our Estate and various issues on 2/9/10.

Attended by lots of residents, local Anti Social behaviour Officer from CBC, and by the local PCSO team, the meeting was a useful forum to information share and to raise issues that need attention

Our Local Councillor, Dave Harris has assured the Chair man Mr Jeff Smith, that all issues raised will be taken up with Taylor Wimpey, Colchester Council, or with Local Police team

Jeff Smith urged all residents to report any local problems
